Aditi Ashok started her 19th major campaign with a modest 1-under 71 at the Carnoustie Championship Course.

Aditi, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, made a steady start to claim tied-22nd position after the end of day one game.

She started her round with a birdie and made three more in total against three bogeys in the first round of the Women's Open.

The Olympic gold medalist Nelly Korda claimed the round on lead after carding a solid 5-under 67. Joining her at the top was Sweden's Magdalene Sagstrom and the South-Korean Sei Young Kim.

A pack of four golfers, including the 2021 U.S Open winner Yuka Saso, were at the tied-4th position.

Aditi is currently falling four shots behind the leader, but with a solid second round, she can take place inside the top-10 to raise hope of winning the first major on the LPGA Tour.

A total of 19 players were at the tied-22nd position with a 1-under par.

The defending champion Sophia Popov shot an even-par to secure tied-41st place heading into the second round.
