Anirban Lahiri sits 1 shot off the lead after strong opening round at Players Championship
Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri made his presence felt with a solid 5-under 67 at the star-studded Players Championship.
The lone Indian in the field, Lahiri, had a pretty impressive first-round, in which he scored a sublime 67 with the help of four birdies and an eagle against a single bogey to end his day one campaign at tied for third place.
Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Hoge of America both carded a matching 6-under 66s to share the first-round lead at the PGA Tour $20,000,000 prize money event.

Lahiri, who is seeking his first win on PGA Tour, started his journey from the tenth tee and witnessed a steady first nine-hole game, in which he shot two birdies against a bogey on the 17th for a 1-under 35.
The 34-year-old then opened his final nine-hole proceedings with an even-par on 1st hole followed by a brilliant birdie on the second and three consecutive pars on the 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Lahiri then impressed everyone with a great shot that resulted in an eagle on the par-4 sixth hole, giving him the platform to enter into contention, and with a par-birdie-par, Lahiri finished day one with a strong total of 5-under 67.
Three other players, Kramer Hickok, Keith Mitchell and Joaquin Niemann, joined Lahiri entering the second round.
Amongst the top-six after round one, Kramer Hickok was the only player in the top six who didn't commit a single error and had a bogey-free day at work.
The pre-tournament favourite and current World No.1 Jon Rahm, after carding a decent to solid 3-under 69 was at tied-11th.
