Dustin, Rory struggles at Kiawah Island

World No.1 Dustin Johnson and 4-time major champion Rory McIlroy struggled to make an impression on day one at the PGA Championship.

Dustin Johnson, who has been battling with his form, shot a 4-over 76 to tie for 97th place, while Rory McIlroy shot a 3-over 77 to tie for 77th place at Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

Johnson has a lot of work ahead as he chases his first PGA Championship title at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in his native South Carolina.

The two-time PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy couldn't get off to a good start in this year's competition as he couldn't find the greens.

Corey Conners stormed in a 2-stroke lead after the opening round at the prestigious major event on Thursday.

England's Sam Horsfield and former world number one Brooks Koepka are part of a six-strong chasing pack who sit two off the 29-year-old's early pace.

Horsfield, making his debut at the tournament, shot a brilliant 3-under to grab a tied-2nd spot.

Whereas, the 2018 and 2019 winner Brooks Koepka, who is playing in the tournament with a knee injury, continued to entertain his fans and put up an impressive 3-under score for the tied-22nd position after the end of day one.

Norway's Viktor Hovland, Australia's Cam Davis, and Americans Keegan Bradley and Aaron Wise are also at three under.
