Rahil Gangjee takes 1-shot lead at halfway point of Players Championship

On the second day of the 2022 Players Championship, veteran Indian golfer Rahil Gangjee displayed his class by taking a one-shot lead.

2-time Asian Tour winner Gangjee added 66 to his first-round 64 to reach 10-under 130 in two days at the star-studded Players Championship being played at Tollygunge Golf Club.

Shamim Khan took the honours of carding the best round of the day. Khan shot a 5-under 65 in round second to move up one spot from his overnight tie-14th to tied-2nd at nine-under 131.

Ajeetesh Sandhu (63-68), the round one leader, joined Shamim in tied second place after he carded a 68 on Wednesday.

Indian golf legend Jeev Milkha Singh followed up his first-round 65 with a 68 to continue in tied eighth position for the second day running at seven-under 133.Pre-tournament favourite SSP Chawrasia produced a second straight 68 to be tied 17th at four-under 136.

The cut was applied at even-par 140. Fifty-one professionals made the cut.

Gangjee smashed six birdies against two bogeys in the second round to claim the crown’s position. The overnight leader Ajeetesh Sandhu, tied for second after round two, produced five birdies and three bogeys during his second round.

Shamim Khan, on the other hand, not just took the best day honour but also impressed everyone with an eagle shot on par-5 13th hole during his second round of 5-under 65.

The four players in tied fourth place at eight-under 132 were Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, Veer Ahlawat and the Sri Lankan duo of N Thangaraja and Vijitha Bandara.

Rashid Khan (65-68) and Chikkarangappa S (67-66), were tied for 8th place.
