Review: TaylorMade FCG Putter
“Looks like a mallet, feels like a blade, forgives like a Spider,” is the marketing line of the brand new TaylorMade FCG Putter, and I could not resist myself from checking this out.
My first experience with this club was truly satisfying, as the new Spider X FCG putter really helped me to sink longer putts or at-least come so much closer to sinking them.
Look & Feel
This club looks amazing. I took it to the course instead of my regular putter and sunk a few 10 to 15 footers, and one 30 footers just lipped out. So my first impression was that the putter feels good, and I can make more confident strokes.
The putter undoubtedly has a firmer, more solid feel than the Spider X, thanks in part to the heavier copper insert, closer to that of what you would experience from solid putters with no grooves on the face.
Performance
The Spider X FCG putter is a phenomenal putter, both in terms of construction and performance.
It somehow performed like the Spider X model, which we all know how good that Spider X putter was. The putter has a smaller, slightly more rounded profile than the Spider X but is arguably easier to aim thanks to the T-shape alignment system.
The Final Words
This putter is all about TaylorMade expanding available options to golfers with maximum hang in the Spider putter line-up, at 46 degrees (with the slant) which is directly in line with the TP Soto at 47 degrees.
