Rory McIlroy captures 20th PGA Tour title with one-shot victory at The CJ Cup
Rory McIlroy produced a solid 6-under 66 in the final round to grab the 2021 CJ Cup by a single shot.
McIlroy smashed 24 birdies, three eagles against two bogeys and one triple bogey in his four-day campaign at the Summit Club to grab his 20th PGA Tour title.
The four-time major champion McIlroy, who has been struggling with his form and has only won 2 titles, including the CJ Cup in the last two years, said "I'm working on a few things in my game not necessarily swing related, but more mental stuff, routine, visualisation, things that I've done pretty well this week for three days.”
This victory provided him a lot of confidence, as well as $1,755,000 in prize money for winning the renowned PGA Tour event.
Collin Morikawa, the world No. 3 and a member of the Ryder Cup-winning team, shot a fantastic 10-under in the fourth round to finish one shot behind champion Rory McIlroy.
Morikawa produced the best round of the final day, a 10-under 62, to finish runner-up after starting the last day at 14th place.
Keith Mitchell, the leader after the first round, finished the event at tied for third place with Rickie Fowler with a four-day score of 22-under 266.
With this win, McIlroy made a big jump in the Official World Golf Rankings from 13th to find a place inside the top-10.
PGA Tour’s last week’s tournament winner Sungjae Im posted 20-under 268 over four days to finish at tied-9th position.
