Russell Henley takes charge with three-shot lead at halfway stage of Sony Open

Russell Henley's outstanding performance on the second day propelled him to the top of the leaderboard with a three-shot advantage at Sony Open.

Henley, who shot a marginally better 8-under 62 the other day, carded a solid 7-under 63 on Friday at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu.

The 3-time PGA Tour champion was all another level today as he had smashed two eagles and five birdies against just two bogeys in his whole round.

His day at the low-scoring event was fantastic; the highlight of his round came when he made an eagle on the par-5 18th hole, bringing his total to 15-under 125.

Haotong Li

After shooting a remarkable 7-under 63 on the first day, Haotong Li of China extended his impressive run with a 5-under 65 in the second round to take second place at the $7,500,000 prize pool tournament.

Kevin Na, who posted 9-under 61 on Thursday to emerge as the leader, shot 1-over 71 to drop down to tied-16th.

While Jim Furyk, 51, who hit an ace and was tied for second after the first round, had a less than pleasant second round, scoring 2-over 72 and finishing tied-37th.

A pack of eleven golfers, including 2021 Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama, were at the tied-5th position at 9-under 131.

The cut was applied at 5-under 135.

Cameron Smith, Sungjae Im, Ryan Moore, Abraham Ancer and Rory Sabatini were among the big names who missed the cut.
