Anshul Patel builds three-shot lead in darkness suspended IndianOil Servo Masters

Anshul Patel was leading the IndianOil Servo Masters on Wednesday when the first round was suspended because of darkness at the Digboi Golf Links.

Anshul had a three-shot lead when play was stopped with 18 players out of a total of 117 could not finish their first round on Wednesday.

Shravan Desai of Ahmedabad posted a solid round of six-under 66 at the Rs. 60 lakh event to share the second spot with pre-tournament favourite Yuvraj Singh Sandhu.

The start of round one was delayed by one hour 15 minutes in the morning due to extreme fog all around the course, as a result of a delayed start; some players weren’t able to finish their rounds, but they will come back and resume their rounds at 6 am local time on Thursday.

The 74th ranked player at the PGTI Order of Merit, Anshul Patel, played some great wedge shots on the back-nine that helped him set up four of his five birdies before the turn. He also had a 20-feet conversion on the 16th, he then shot a bogey on the 17th but finished his round with a birdie on 18th to maintain a handsome three-stroke lead.

The 26-year-old Shravan Desai shot an error-free 66 in his first competitive round at the Digboi Golf Links. Desai, currently 68th on the PGTI’s money list, is also vying for a spot in the top-60 to retain his PGTI card.

While Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, the pre-tournament favourite, shot a round of 66 that included eight birdies and two bogeys.

Three golfers including, former champion Harendra Gupta of Chandigarh, were in tied fourth with 5-under 67.
