J.J. Spaun claims maiden PGA Tour title with 2-shot win at Valero Texas Open
J.J. Spaun kept the momentum on the final day to grab his maiden PGA Tour title with a two-shot victory at the Valero Texas Open.
Spaun, who started the day with a double-bogey on the par-4 1st hole, bounced back with five birdies without any bogey in the remaining seventeen holes to claim a comfortable win on the challenging TPC San-Antonio.
Australia’s Matt Jones carded a solid 6-under 66 in the fourth round to finish in second place along with veteran Matt Kuchar.

Four players, including the Canadian Adam Hadwin, ended their run tied for fourth place at 10-under 278.
Dylan Frittelli of South Africa, the overnight leader alongside Spaun, had a rough day at work as he only managed to card 73 and end his journey at tied-8th.
Anirban Lahiri, the only Indian in the tournament, had a mixed event in which he posted 8-under 280 in four days to finish tied-13th. He gained a little momentum on day three with a three-under 69, and with a decent 2-under 70 on the final day, he completed his run at a creditable thirteenth position.
Lahiri, who opened his campaign with a blistering 4-under 68, faced a rough day two at work in which he carded 1-over 73.
Spaun, the overnight joint-leader, scored 13-under 275 in his four-day run to claim $1,548,000 winning prize along with a maiden PGA Tour title.
With this victory, the 31-year-old Spaun not just grabbed his first PGA Tour title but also booked his berth for the 2022 Masters.
The first major tournament of men’s golf, Masters will be played at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club from 7-10 April 2022.
