Joaquin Niemann shoots second straight 8-under 63, holds 2-shot lead at The Genesis Invitational

Joaquin Niemann set the bar high with a second straight round of 8-under 63 at the Genesis Invitational.

The Chilean golfer Niemann started his second-day campaign with an eagle on the par-5 1st hole followed by three birdies and five pars thru first-nine holes.

The 23-year-old Niemann made an error on the back-nine and had a bogey on the par-4 10th, but he didn't make any more mistakes after that and finished his round with a 2-shot lead at the Riviera Golf Course in Los Angeles.

Cameron Young (62) carded the best round of the day and retained his second spot heading into weekend action at the PGA Tour $12,000,000 prize money event.

14-time PGA Tour champion Justin Thomas improved on day two and posted 7-under 64 to climb up from overnight sixth to the third position.

Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott

While the veteran Jordan Spieth alongside Adam Scott of Australia were at tied-4th.

The Indian-American Sahith Theegala, who impressed everyone with his game technique last week, shot 1-under 141 in two days to make the cut.

Even after shooting a steady 2-under 69 on day two, Anirban Lahiri, the lone Indian golfer in the field, missed the qualification berth for the weekend play.

Lahiri’s first-round 4-over 75 created the blockage behind him and the ticket to the weekend as his 69 on the second day couldn’t help him much, and he missed the cut by two shots.

The former World No.1 Dustin Johnson also had a rough event as he also shot 2-over 144 in two days to miss the cut.

The other notables who missed the cut were Seamus Power, Bubba Watson, Tom Hoge, Brooks Koepka, Kevin Na, Sam Burns, Patrick Reed, and Ryan Palmer.
