Rahil Gangjee, Chikkarangappa shine on day one of 2022 Royal's Cup

Rahil Gangjee and Chikkarangappa both fired spectacular 5-under 67 in the opening round of the 2022 Royal’s Cup to emerge as the best-placed Indians on Thursday.
The veteran Gangjee, who mostly plays on the Japan Tour, made his return to the Asian Tour with a destructive attitude as his first-round 67 put him at tied-5th position.
His fellow Indian Chikkarangappa S also had a blistering round of 67, in which he smashed the same as Gangjee, six birdies against a single bogey to join the former at third.
Taiwanese golfer Chan Shih-chang played an extra-ordinary 8-under 64 to grab the first-round lead at the Grand Prix Golf Club.

Chan Shih-chang had a super smooth error-free round to take a one-shot advantage over Justin Quiban of the Philippines at the Asian Tour’s US$ 400,000 prize money event.
Bjorn Hellgren (66) of Sweden and Thai player Sodom Kaewkanjana were further shot back at tied third.4-time Asian Tour champion John Catlin and four others also carded 5-under to be tied fifth.
A group of four players shared 13th position, including Aman Raj, who finished day one as the third-best Indian with a 4-under 68.
Viraj Madappa shot a steady 3-under 69 to share the tied-21th position with 2019 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Jazz Janewattananond and five others.
Among the remaining Indians, Shiv Kapur and Rashid Khan were at tied-71, SSP Chawrasia (73), Ajeetesh Sandhu and Honey Baisoya were at tied-90, Veer Ahlawat (74), Khalin Joshi were at tied-115, while Aadil Bedi was placed outside 130 after a disappointing 3-over 75.
