Shubhankar Sharma fires 4-under 67, takes lead at Magical Kenya Open
Shubhankar Sharma added 67 to his opening-round 65 to claim the top spot at the halfway stage of Magical Kenya Open.
Sharma, who is in fine form, started low in the morning as he witnessed one bogey and seven pars in his first 8-hole game, but the eagle he shot on the 18th boosted up his confidence as on the final 9-hole holes; he made four birdies against a single bogey to climb up from overnight tied-2nd to the first position.
Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson and Masahiro Kawamura shared the tied-2nd place at the halfway stage as both carded 9-under 133 in two days.
Thirston Lawrence, who won his DP World title last year at the Joburg Open, added a solid 5-under 66 to his modest 69 he scored on day one to climb up the leaderboard by 37 spots to sit at solo fourth after 36 holes.
Sharma, the highest-ranked Indian golfer in the world, started his journey with a breathtaking bogey-free round of 6-under 65 and with another solid 4-under 67, he grabbed the top spot heading into weekend action at DP World Tour’s €1,000,000 prize money event.
The 25-year-old Sharma, who finished just one off the campaign in the season-opener in January and is currently is in great form and is hoping to end his winless streak on the DP world tour as his last victory came in 2018.
The overnight leader Daniel Gavins of England had a rough day at work as even starting well with a birdie on the first hole, he lost his momentum as he mixed two birdies with five bogeys to end his at 2-over 73 to slip down from crown’s place to tied-5th.
